Fleeting Moments

Last weekend my 40th Birthday kindly tapped me on the shoulder…. Only moments earlier, I remember turning 30.

As I age, I tend to increasingly scroll back through past memories — those lasting vivid impressions of this world, of human touch, family, knowledge gained, the spontaneous fun, incredible and overwhelmingly happy moments.  Not to mention, all I am thankful for.  I also have thoughts of yet unfulfilled expectations, broken promises, regrets and sorrow that have accumulated through the years, like raking a lawn of fallen leaves.

Lately, my life has been about removing the baggage of excess and complexity and focusing on the quiet subtlety that surrounds us.  There are moments as if I feel like my life has turned into one big ‘Software Update Available’ or ‘$ Balance Due’ window that keeps popping up on my computer screen.

I’m the type of person that continually looks back, as well as within, to be able to look ahead.  To me, music tends to propel me into a thought process that spirals deep into past memories, as well as future hopes.

Music provides a backdrop for the unforgettable moments in your life.

I’m sure my experiences parallel many of yours, as well.

  1. Matt,

I don’t have too many more years than you but a philosophy that has served me well is hold on only to the memories and the love of family and friends. The rest is either repairable or replaceable.

Music for me brings back memories of dinner and family. Still have a hard time “listening like and audiophile” as music for me has always been about food, cooking and even some conversation.

    Happy 40th

    1. Thanks Steve! –

I shot that on Interstate 5 on a drive down from San Francisco. Lot’s of Truckers using that route – I pulled over on the side of the road, at 2am, in need of a coffee and beef jerky fix and snapped the photo….

  5. Happy belated birthday Matt
Seems we are of a similar vintage, just turned 41 recently. Your website continues to be an oasis of musical and aesthetic beauty. The way you capture light is magic. Can’t wait till the coffers fill enough to get an Aurieges.
    Regards from Australia, Andy
